FonTel L4NET recorder integrates with the FonTel and FonTel Client applications to enable viewing of recorded calls, managing device configuration and extending its functionality.

To install the FonTel L4NET recorder, connect the device to a phone line, computer network and power supply. It doesn't require any modifications to the current phone infrastructure - just connect the recorder to a free phone socket, parallel to a phone. It also means that the recorder can be placed anywhere, not necessarily close to the phone. It doesn't interfere with the phone or other devices connected to the phone network.

Next, install bundled FonTel software and check connection with the recorder.

Box contents

  • FonTel L4NET recorder,
  • software CD,
  • user manual,
  • phone cable (4 pcs.),
  • computer network cable,
  • power supply.

Caller information

Because caller identification is using the phone book and calls database, the application will show a short information on the caller, ever before the call is picked up. This information includes caller's data (if these are available in the phone book), time and topic of the last conversation, numbering zone (area code or GSM network name) and carrier name. The message will appear in the bottom corner of the screen, even if the application is running in the background and is hidden.
FonTel application can generate any summaries and charts

The application can be used to create any statistical summaries of calls by the number or duration of calls, broken down by the hour, week days, days, months, line numbers, call types (incoming, outgoing).

Backup copy

Enables making backup copies of archived data, including direct burning to CDs or DVDs. Allows for simple browsing of backup copies directly from the application.

If it is necessary to limit the types of recorded phone calls by time and day of the week, you can define recording schedules. A recording schedule allows you to specify, when phone calls of certain types are recorded.

A separate schedule can be defined for each phone line. To define a schedule, specify which call types (all, incoming, outgoing, none, according to sound level2) shall be recorded during a week.

Number whitelists and blacklists1

You can define whitelists and blacklists to specify call numbers to which calls shall and shall not be recorded. You can for example blacklist private phone numbers of your employees to exempt them from recording. You can create unlimited number of lists, for each recorded line you can assign any list specifying whether it is a whitelist (the recorder will record only calls to numbers on the list) or a blacklist (the recorded will record all calls, except for those to numbers on the list).

The application can also work with private branch exchanges (PBX) sharing billing data. This should most of all enable access to information about internal numbers participating in calls, when the recorder is connected to the external exchange.

Answering machine2,3

The answering machine automatically takes the call after a certain number of rings, initiates recording and plays a predefined sound file with a greeting. Recording is terminated at the latest after a certain number of minutes.

Automatic call announcement2,3

The automatic announcement (for example about the fact, that the call is being recorded) automatically plays a predefined recording directly after the call is taken by the incoming call recipient.

1 This feature is not available for the FonTel L4NET recorder.
2 This feature is not available for the FonTel ISDN recorder.
3FonTel L1USB, L2USB and L4USB recorders require a voice modem.

Client-Server architecture

The client application enables remote access from a distant location over a local computer network or the Internet. This allows for a distributed client-server call recording system with one recording station and many clients (for example - one for each phone line).

Web server

The embedded web server provides more options. You can use a Web browser to remotely access recorded calls through a local network or the Internet. It doesn't require any additional software. To connect (using a modem, local network or the Internet) you only need to know the address of the computer recording calls.

Depending on the configuration, you can access a list of calls only or both the list and sound recordings. Remote access can be password-protected.

A calls database and sound files may be located on a network share or drive. This enables centralized call recording from several workstations in a network.

The application can also make backup copies of the archive to a remote computer over a local network or the Internet. In predefined intervals, the application will copy entries from the local call database to an external database using ODBC and will send all sound files to a specified FTP server or will copy the files to a shared folder on a remote computer. The backup process runs automatically in the background. You can store information about calls and calls recorded from different recorders in one place - on a networked server. The same mechanism can be used to enable interoperability with other external systems.

FonTel API allows to integrate the recorder with other software. It enables access to the information about recorded calls.
